I was talking to one of the ADV translators at the 10th Anniversary of Evangelion, when the topic of the origins of the Angels came up. We both agreed that the Angels were already on Earth, but only lying dormant until 2015. I suggested that the Angels were located in Antartica. What do you guys think about this subject.

I agree pretty much with them. It makes perfect sense within the context of the show, as well.

So the Angels evolved on Earth and then became dormant? I've never really understood the Angels myself. I always figured the Angels came from space because of the one Angel

that the Lance of Longinus was used on

I figured they would have been able to detect it going into space if it came from Earth. Does that sound to far fetched?

Actually, since they couldn't detect the other Angels until they came into close proximity to NERV HQ, it's still possible that Arael flew into space to ready its attack.
Still, intriguing possibility, especially since most mecha shows deal with threats that come from space.

Well I guess that was part of my logic. Nadesico has the Jovians attack from space, Gundam has Space Colonies. Space always seems to factor in some how.

What about that one Angel that dropped pieces of itself down to Earth? Was that one from space too? Sorry, I haven't seen that episode. =\

It was likely from space as well. NERV couldn't detect it at all until it started dropping pieces of itself to earth.

I'm talking about the one that dropped pieces of itself down from orbit earlier in the series. I like that one too, especially when it gets broken out of. ;D

Ok. I think I was talking about the 15th Angel, Areal, but thinking of the 10th one, the one that drops parts of itself. Either one would have worked with my arguement though.

Coming from space would add onto the "don't know what's coming next" thing. I mean...no one knows whats up there....*twlight zone theme plays*

How I think the Angels got into space is that they rose there from Antartica before NERV was created and during the Second Impact. Then the Angels stayed dormant in space, perhaps in lunar orbit.
